Leacan Ruadha boulders © Colin McKerrell

Crag features

Various boulders of variable sandstone.

OS grid reference, 885 315

The quality of the setting, outweighs the quality of the climbing.

Approach notes

Park and approach from the Machrie Moor standing stones car park. Walk South from the car park, along the main road, and down the rough lane, past various cottages (Cosyden) and follow this down to the shore line.

On no account park anywhere in the lane. There is no appropriate parking and agricultural vehicles require regular access.

From the bottom of the lane, follow a vague path South at the top of the shore line to the boulders.

Once passed the obvious cleaner crag, the boulders are around 5 minutes further.

A pleasant half hour walk overall.

Avoid attempting to approach from kings caves path South of the area, as the route from there is tidal and it's easy to be cut off or inaccessible.

Access Advice

Don't park in the lane.

Farm land on all sides on approach. Dogs on leads.

Birds nest on the cliffs, but not normally the boulders. Please use common sense.
