Crag features

Knockdrinna is a limestone quarry in a beautiful setting in the Kilkenny countryside 5 minutes off the motorway. The drive is about 1hr 30 mins coming from Dublin on the M9. The climbing on the main face is very technical with some awkward mantels at the start of the routes. The climbing tends to be very crimpy and requires precise footwork.

The rock itself is generally sound however, some small parts still come off. This has settled a lot with traffic on routes which is a good sign. Advisable for the belayer to wear a helmet. Some parts of the crag for a while after heavy rain fall and can take a few days of no rain to fully dry out. The majority of the crag dries quickly after rain.

The newer routes have all been equipped with stainless steel glue ins and the routes are generously bolted with no dangerous runouts. The older climbs on the smaller face to the right have bolts in very poor condition and until rebolted should not be climbed.

**There are birds that nest nearby so climbing should be avoided from March to July.**
