Pantano climbs of Chulilla © trying.soft

Crag features

This beautiful gorge or canyon comprises possibly the most popular climbing sectors of Chulilla. Long vertical walls with climbs up to 55m. Due to the aspect of the wall, you can have shade all day so it’s perfect for sunny days, however some (less popular) walls are south facing and provide plenty of sun. An 80m rope is highly recommended, and it will be enough for all climbs, as you will always find an anchor at 40m where you can lower down to and re-thread if necessary.

A paradise for those in the 7th grade.

For other areas such as climbs near Chulilla Town or Tabaira/Cherales, find their separate logbooks.

*A 2022 edition of the guide by Pedro Pons is available from the tabaco shop in the main square and El Altico hostel.*

**When a line says "(L1+L2)" the grade is obtained by climbing from the ground in one push. These are not multipitch routes. Almost all extensions are graded from the ground, not from the previous chain.**

Approach notes

If approaching from the west, enter the gorge via the dirt road and walk down to the metal bridge, cross it and follow the path up if you’re heading for Chorreras/Oasis.

If approaching from the east, the walk is slightly longer and requires crossing a series of hanging bridges. This brings you easily to Miguel Gomez, Nanopar and Balcon, although from here the approach to Oasis is a bit tedious.

PARKINGS

Two main parking areas are available. One to the east of the gorge (39°40'10.6"N 0°53'18.8"W), and one to the west of the gorge (39°39'46.6"N 0°54'38.1"W).

The guidebook by Pedro Pons provides useful maps showing the approaches to all crags, please refer to this.
