Aritxulegi is a series buttresses scatter across a hillside seemingly miles from anywhere, but get to the summit and you can see San Sebastian and Irun. Despite each of the lower crags seemingly quite diminutive stature, they are longer than they appear. A great day out can be had linking one crag to another like multi-pitch climbing by with a short walk and a picnic between each.
The rock is sandstone which seems to be more common than limestone in this area od SPain. There are also plenty of easier routes..
Turn off the AP-8 for Oiartzun at Junction 11. At the roundabout take the exit onto the GI-2134 towards Elizalde and Oiartzun. Head up through the town and turn right off the main road onto the GI-3420 towards Lesaka and a view point at Meategia. You now stay on this road for several kilometres as the road heads up into the hills. You will know you have arrived because you drive past the crag. If you go for a drink before or after climbing then you can park off the road down at the Albergue Arritxulo Aterpetxea.
