The Vrbovsko climbing area is fairly new and has been equipped with the help of the local tourist board. The routes are not very long, but there’s a wide spread of grades and the climbing is good. The routes are varied in their character, and some of them are also very interesting. There are flat and steep slabs, cracks, but also larger, but still short overhangs. This is why this place is good for training and practicing technique. The climbing area is easily accessible, since it is only one kilometre from the motorway exit. The ideal time to visit is spring and autumn.

Approach notes

From the highway   Zagreb-Rijeka (A6), exit at Vrbovsko. Immediately after the exit, turn right onto road D-42 in the direction of Ogulin. After nine hundred meters, turn left towards Hambarište. Before the first house on the right (200 m after the turn), you should turn right onto the dirt road, which you should continue for another three hundred meters to the parking lot at the edge of the quarry.

From here there is a path that goes to the left of the quarry and up into the woods behind it. The path is very steep at first. At the top of the climb, it flattens out and continues into the woods heading generally rightwards, further than you expect. The path becomes narrow and traverses towards the grassy slope. There are a few fixed rope handrails it goes down for a short time and then continues along the slope towards the rock (15-20 min).
