Crag features
The Tschingelhörner are a spectacular chain of mountain peaks that form part of the border between the cantons of Glarus and Graubünden. Despite much of the rock being loose, the area still features a couple of very memorable bolted, multipitch routes. The climbing takes you across a variety of rock types, including Limestone and Verrucano.
The Tschingelhörner were formed during the Glarus thrust event, and there are many dramatic strata on display. There is also the Martinsloch- a giant hole that cuts straight through the entire ridge. Because of the unique geology in the area, it is part of the Sardona UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Approach notes
To approach from Glarus, travel to the village of Elm. From Elm, follow the trail to Segnes Pass (2625m) where there is a small hut. The total walk-in is around 1600m of ascent and 6km. It's also possible to take the Tschinglen cable car from Elm, which shaves off about 500m's of ascent. The southern approach begins above Flims in Graubünden.
