Crag features

A massive quarry readily visible alongside the B6001 between Hassop and Calver. Quarrying here recently came to an end following a long dispute between the quarry owners and The Park National Park, who successfully argued that an excessive amount of extraction had taken place in breach of the quarrying license. Locals will be aware of how the quarry noticeably crept into the margin of the nearby wood. Some landscaping has now taken place (burying an old mine entrance to the chagrin of local cavers/mine explorers). A bank hides the main quarry floor, in front of this the road side area of the quarry remains in use during working hours, for storage of gravel and stone. The late John Allen cleaned and climbed the majority of routes here during a number of evenings and weekends 2018-2020, a couple of his remaining projects were also climbed after his death. The rock here is limestone but unusual in nature with similarities to metamorphic rock.
