Climbs 3
Rocktype Rhyolite
Altitude 342m a.s.l
Faces NW
Situated just 10 minutes from the Ogwen visitors centre with plentiful views of Pen yr Ole Wen, Y Garn and down the valley to Bethesda. Being a North West facing crag, it is often quite sheltered from the elements and basks in the summer evening sunshine until the late hours.
There is a large selection of slab crags, steep aretes and bold faces to choose from. Imperial slab is the most prominent section immediately left of the tree growing above the base. The lower sections could be treated as boulder problems and therefore freeclimbed, however a fall from one of the continuation lines would certainly disrupt the balance of the force.
Walk from Ogwen cottage car park, (carefully) through tin can alley and follow the footpath upward to the stile. Continue to the stepping stones and keeping Lyn Idwal on your left, up the grass bank to gain flatter ground.
Follow the faint path to a grass slope on the right looking down the valley toward Bethesda, before a steep slab, descend the grass bank and the crag is at the bottom on the left.
