Climbs 9
Rocktype Granite
Altitude 300m a.s.l
Western Beacon
A relately recently developed climbing area tucked away in an old quarry below Western Beacon. It is bouldering, but some of it is on the high side and could be lead with a few small to medium cams. The main face faces east. It needs a good spell of dry weather for all the lines to dry out. The granite is rather different from the natural outcrops on the Moor. Unless otherwise stated all the problems are standing starts. Apart from the first 3 problems, the main face lines were all cleaned on abseil with loose rock removed and then bouldered ground up by Andy Pemberton in May 2025 - erroneously thinking he had a crop of new lines to boast about. It seems that most of the lines had had previous ascents from Nick Baron and Jason Maddick in 2020 and their route names have been used here. Thanks to Nick for the info.
It is just about walkable from Ivybridge train station, but easier by car.
Parking is at what3words: tomato.shunted.something
The quarry entrance is at what3words: assess.rocky.thanks
