Climbs 56
Rocktype Limestone
Altitude 56m a.s.l
Faces SW
The crags that form the west side of the Little Orme, just beyond the end of the beach.
The upper cliff faces west and gets sun from midday until sunset. Climbing is possible year round; it is however an exposed spot and best avoided on windy days. Seepage is not much of a problem and the routes dry quickly after rain.
Most of the routes on the lower cliff are accessed from the Diamond handline, with the exception of the deep water soloing area, which is easily accessed from the end of the beach.
Cross the metal gate opposite the Craigside Inn and follow the path through the trees, paralleling the road, to a meadow. Cross the meadow and go over a low fence, then cross a field to the cliff edge. Hop back over the fence on the right and skirt the edge to reach the crag, obvious straight ahead.
Parts of Craig y Don (as listed on UKC) have access restrictions:
Craig y Don - Lower and Middle
BMC RAD entry for Lower Craig y Don (inc. Craig y Don Middle)
Restrictions apply from 1 March - 15 August.
Reason: Nesting Birds (Kittiwakes, which tend to be late nesters).
These restrictions do not apply to the DWS routes listed on this page, Ledgend (provided the boat approach is used) and The Tide is High (But I'm Holding On) rightward to the Don Side Beach routes, i.e. including The Heel Hook Look. All these routes start and finish well to the right of the nesting areas.
Other areas listed here
No restrictions.
