Dog Buttress, Icart Point, Guernsey © Nathan Crab
A sea-level buttress giving good quality wall climbs at it's left-hand end and some tougher lines in the HVS-E3 bracket with steep starts in the centre. All lines are non-tidal on neaps, but may then need an abseil approach if rough seas are stopping you traversing in.
Easiest way down to sea level is on the south-eastern side (left looking out to sea). Scramble down the sour fig near the abseil boulder then head left (facing out) along the bottom of the fig (knotted rope*). Cut back towards the crag and down easy slabs. Alternatively, abseil from the large boulder on the gearing-up ledge.
*black 20mm rebar and galvanised channel stakes placed 3-8-25
Good topo here.
From the carpark, head west along the cliff path, immediately there's a green bench. Downclimb the lefthand end of the rocks, then follow a path down to Telephone Buttress. Follow the path skirting around the RH side of the rocks and downclimb a step. Follow a path RW under an evergreen oak tree and down through sloe bushes to the top of Dog Buttress. Go round the lefthand side to a nice grassy gearing-up area with boulder.
No bird restrictions, but a fulmar has nested to the right of 'Seven Up' in recent years.
Path down to Dog Buttress completely overgrown and the crag inaccessible from the top. Suggest going down with a strimmer first if you want to climb. (18 July 2023) Barney Williams - 24/Jul/23 |
