Tyler climbing a highball v5 up amongst a talus field at the powerline boulders © butterworthtom
The Powerline Boulders are located adjacent to Highway 99 as the road strikes northtoward Whistler from the outskirts of Squamish. This area was developed mostly in the summer of 2002 and features over 100 varied problems. The bouldering here is very different from that of the Chief and features blocky, metamorphic rock in both a pleasant old-growth forest and an open talus field setting. Prepare for lots of crimps, smooth jugs, slopers and big moves across blank faces. In the talus zone, the wide open, sunny exposure makes for a very fast-drying area, but the jumbled blocks necessitate the use of multiple crashpads. The landings in the forest are quite level, but the rock dries much less quickly.
