Rocktype Grit (quarried)
Altitude 116m a.s.l
Once a mighty venue with soaring walls and several classics, notably the 37m Birchwood Crack; landfill has reduced the quarry to micro-route height. Boulderers have explored and documented here but the oppressive summer jungle growth of brambles, nettles and the lichenous northeast-facing walls mean that it's difficult to find the crag in good condition, if you can reach it.
Look for the bay 50m south of Holmesford Cottage Inn, on the A6, and follow the leftmost woodland track southwest through undergrowth until a building is visible on the right. The rocks are 50m further on, as the track enters a clearing and disapears under the vegetation.
