Luxulyan Quarry © Tom Last

Crag features

A large quarry with some impressive walls, some of the rock is very rotten and some not so. At its best in the late winter and spring time. A good intro for other esoteric classics (e.g. Lost World Quarry).

The base is like, well it’s a jungle. Most of the starts of the routes are accessible. It's not like one local has said "bring a machete and an elephant gun”.

In spite of all this, it is a quality venue. Think crimpy 1980's style training venue ("Didn't know much about training so we just crimped and cranked our way through it").

Approach notes

Please don’t use the parking description as used in the last guide book. Instead park in the big main car park. From here follow the track south westerly, take the left fork, a little further on cross the river and go under the railway track into the quarry.

Please don’t access the quarry or any of the routes from the top, only come in from the bottom via the rail underpass and be discrete.

Wearing wellies is advised.

Take some wellies for the approach.
