Climbs 150
Rocktype Limestone
Altitude 142m a.s.l
Faces SE
Steep pocketed limestone, main grades 5+ - 7b. Severe grading as with a lot of the old school crags in the Alpilles. (The '22 guide has upgraded many - I've changed to the 'new' grades where I've spotted them. Andy S.)
The new 2022 topo suggests that parking is allowed in the valley again. From the D33A between Tarascon and Paradou take the Chemin de la Leque; a fairly 'rough' road which winds through some farms, to a parking spot where the road forks (information noticeboard).
Walk up the left fork for 350m and then turn sharp left past a barrier. A further 100m brings you to Sector Grotte. Sector Mozart is 70m to the left, the other sectors stretch up to the right.
Climbing in the valley was banned for some time but has now opened up again on the big SE facing crag. Confusingly this used to be known as Fontvieille, but as it is in fact in the commune of Tarascon, the name has been changed. The crags on the opposite side of the valley ARE in the commune of Fontvieille but are currently banned. Climbing in the valley can be subject to closure during periods of high fire risk.
