Approach the east face of Afella from the refuges via a narrow canyon. There are two tiers separated by a broad snowfield just under half-way up the face. Start by climbing the left-leaning ramp on the lower tier, with a short icy step at the bottom. Just before the end of the ramp, climb a difficult rocky step onto a snow ledge up and to the right. Traverse rightwards along this until you can climb up to the main central snowfield, then continue to traverse rightwards to the far end of the snowfield. Climb either of the two gullies leading to Afella's north summit.
