The Climbing
Although short, the routes are generally on solid rock with good gear placements. Skull slab is probably one of the best v diffs you'll find in the country. Looking at the crag from the road,. The most prominent feature is Skull Buttress where the longest climbs are to be found. The routes have been originally named based on features on the rock likened to the parts of a skull and hence the slightly morbid names! 200m to the right of Skull Buttress there is a small slab with some pleasant route called small wallÂ

Note: the crag is on private property.
10 mins walk to the crag top from upper car park at Ailwee Cave. just south of Ballyvaughan village. Cave car park closed at 6PM.
The crag is on private property, go in groups of less than 6 and keep it low key. Sometimes there is a Raven nesting on Sunbane if so keep away. Don't go in by the fields beliw Skull Buttress thus has led to access issues in the past.
The map is wrong - that's Mayo, the Burren is in Clare! RKernan - 30/May/11 |
