9m. Moderator: To satisfy the ever-burgeoning need for variations, it seems time to include the tickable variation 'Wombling Arete'. The 1990 Gritstone guide offered us this description: 'It is possible to climb the left arete [of Wombling Wall] but its proximity to Swingover makes it rather too esoteric for a name or number.' Alas, time has given it a name, if not a number. Contributor: 'Start as for Wombling Wall, after the initial moves up the diagonal crack place gear in the sandy slot and just above the hairline crack. Move up and left to the arete, then use good holds on the wall left of the arete and the arete to reach the horizontal break where you can reach right and clip the peg. Finish as for Wombling Wall.'
