Blocs de la Madeleine © Chris Craggs
The bigger (and better) of two minor venues, that together provide a pleasant venue for family climbing or teaching the basics of sport climbing. The Blocs are a series of huge bouders/blocks in the woods close to the Col de la Madeleine on the D1006 as it heads up towards the Col de Iseran. Blocks Two and Three are just to the east have a series of top-rope routes from 5a to 7a+. Check the local book if you fancy a work-out.
The blocs face north, are well sheltered and quick drying, the gravel base helps keep everything clean. They make a great hot weather venue.
Parking for both crags is close to the D902 as it runs up towards the Col de l'Iseran. 3.7km uphill from Lanslevillard and just short distance from the crest of the Col de la Madeleine is a good sized parking area on the left. The blocs are located a couple of hundred east of here, reached by a track through the trees.
