A lovely schist double boulder on the shores of Loch Lomond east, with a terrific outlook. The crag nearby is now vegetated and abandoned. Large mats are useful to protect the stony shore boulder landing. After persistent wet weather the lower cave can be flooded.
There is a small parking spot at the forestry track entrance uphill from Sallochy Cottage at NS 38925 95133. Be considerate parking and leave space for others. From here, cross the road to a track which joins the WHW to head down to the shore. In low water conditions you can follow the shore all the way to the boulder, but usually you follow the trail till it hits an old marker post at a steepening of the path. Skirt through the wood above the shore for 50m to the boulder. 10 minutes.
Alternative parking: Sallochy Bay parking in winter and walk south on the WHW over the short summit of the crag and downhill to the shore, then skirt back right through the rhododendron to find the boulder on the shore near the old crag.
