The Gross Chärpf 2793m and the Chli Chärpf 2699m are near neighbours, separated by the col Chärpfscharte 2644m. The easiest route up the Gross Chärpf is T5 on the SAC hiking scale, indicating demanding alpine hiking, while on the Chli Chärpf it is T4 (alpine hiking), via the Chärpfsharte from east or west. However the normal and the marked way on the north-west ridge to the Chli Chärpf is also T5. Both summits give outstanding views of the surrounding mountains.
The cable car to Mettmen to the north at 1610m allows routes to be done in a day from the valley, while the Leglerhütte just to the north-west of the peaks at 2271m allows a more leisurely approach. From the south-east a bus in summer goes to Obererbs, 1699m.
