Crag features

The village of Chateauneuf de Chabre is dominated by two crags - Baume Rousse on the right (looking up towards the gorge) and Antonave/Pierre Grosse on the left, on the otherside of the river Méouge.

Exposed to the south, at an altitude of 600m, Baume Rousse is the warmest crag in the Buech, with its advantages in winter and of course its drawbacks in summer. The climbing is varied, on pleasant steep or overhanging walls of orche and grey limestone. The top part of this area is the most interesting. The vertically and very sculpted limestone with small grips generate routes which require finger stamina. Fantastic climbing area with a beautiful river to dip your feet in at the end of the day. Well bolted routes.

Antonave/Pierre Grosse is a smaller crag with easier routes and a slightly less favourable aspect.

Approach notes

Baume Rousse: Access from car park: ten minute walk by marked out path that leads to the foot of the routes. Car park: 1 kilometre from the village, along the road of Meouge Gorge.

Antonave: The flat ten minute approach is from a parking at the end of a forest track above the village.

This crag will be updated in the next few weeks with all the climbs.
