Climbs 12
Rocktype Pillow lava
Altitude 101m a.s.l
Faces SW
The main face is about 20m high and is composed of basaltic pillow lava. Above that is another 10m or so of steep and rather unstable looking vegetation. As of March 2025 the crag is looking rather unloved and in need of a good scrub. The recommended approach for some years has been to abseil in from trees at the top of the crag and tidy up first, leaving the rope to belay from.
Gear is very sparse on all the routes right of Isca. As a result, a small number of bolts were placed around 1989. See the 'South Devon' guide for more information. Note: The routes 'Doing a Dalby', 'Dalby' and 'Ascent of Silage' on the right hand side of the crag are now heavily vegetated and "abandoned" acording to the guide.
The quarry is just over 3 miles to the west of Newton Abbot, just north of the A383 and up a narrow lane 300m to the west of the hamlet of Chipley. Tuck your car well in so as not to interfear with the farmer's access.
The quarry is owned and used as a storage area by local farmer, Mr Westcott of Chipley Farm. He is tolerant of climbing at the quarry, on the understanding that climbers operate wholly at their own risk.
