Cold Stone Crag © Jon Wickham
Nice little crag situated approx. one mile from the lay-by at Keasden Head, also known as Bowland Knotts. The easy graded routes seem quite easy for their grade while the harder routes seem hard for theirs!
There are anchor options at the top but pick wisely. Might be useful to have a long sling/extra piece of rope and run anchors back to some old posts approx 10m beyond the top of the crag (not a perfect option on their own though).

The 2016 guidebook suggests following a quad track on the N side of the wall and 'cross the wall with care'. I'd suggest (as the wall has become pretty trashed) using the stile that leads to the trig point and walking along the Lancashire side and through a gate half way. You know it makes sense.
It's a bit further than a mile to the crag - keep going along the wall, and you eventually see the crag above you (there are lots of boulders & craglets off to the other side of the wall, but you'll know when you've found the crag!).
Not that I didn't find it the first time I went or anything... net - 09/Apr/07 |
