βeta: Park as for Stoney West and head up the beautiful wooded dale. After hitting the pastured clearing enjoy the fresh air and light, it's the last you'll get for a while. Follow the stream up to a capping overhang and deep cleft, from here things get prehistoric. Make slimy bridging moves above the swampy abyss and advance forward one foot on each wall. The way forward is simple as you are hemmed in by steep ivy draped walls but keeping your feet dry can be a more complex task. The walls open out into a bowl, here you can traverse the high ledge on the right underneath the over hangs before making a mossy step back across to the left. Dodge Chinook sized mosquitos and press on until you reach a pool which marks the end of the dell, traverse this on its left. Keeping dry could be tricky depending on the water levels. Ahead you will see the storm drain where the water runs from eyam, head up the steep left hand banking trusting some dubious ivy and rotting logs. You'll pop out in daylight in the eyam carpark, it will feel like millennia has passed, you will expect civilisation to be in ruins, but you'll look at your watch and realise only 15 mins has passed. Great day out. | βeta? | |
