A classic area for Drivdalen with a number or short and easy roadside routes plus a number or moderate big mountain lines offering a full day's adventure.
The most saught after icefall here is Tøftfossen situated up in the cauldon, but Wenche Foss and Tilslørte Bondepikker are not to be dismissed as they too offer good quality climbing at an amenable grade in a spectacular position.
Drive South on the E6 from Oppdal into Drivdalen and take the right-hand turn just before Drivstua train station. Cross the tracks and take a left to find a parking place - by the old train shed is ideal, or at the parking area for the Drivsta trainstation
Walk back towards the farm and follow the road into the farmyard, walk around the sheep barn and over the bridge. Here, if going to Tilslørte Bondepikker head directly left and cross the field heading for the sheep gate in the far corner. If heading to Wenche Foss, walk directly up through the trees to the ice. If heading to Tøftfossen, Diplom Is or Grubekken then continue along the farm track until you meet Grubekken, walk up either side of the river (the left/ south side is easiest) to the cauldron.
The approach to these routes can be strenuous, especially in deep snow it can be worth considering taking trekking poles and perhaps even snowshoes in exceptionally snowy conditions. Early season the approaches should take less than an hour (about 40 min to all the routes along the mountainside) with deep snow, expect an approach closer to 1.5 - 2 hrs.
Descent is normally by foot. From Tilslørte Bondepikker traverse south around the mountain then go down the valley under the giant boulder. For Wenche Foss abseil from V-threads and trees is possible or by walking over to Tøftfossen. From Tøftfossen, Diplom Is and Grubekken walk around the top of the cauldron and follow a snow slope down, this slope may be unstable.
