Coledale round © john1963
A vegetated and easy angled but surprisingly large crag, about 100m high. In winter it makes a good (easy climbing) way onto Eel Crag itself as it holds snow fairly well. There is a large unenticing lower tier, which slants up rightwards to become the scrotty broken ground just above Coledale Hause. Wainwright's Shelf Route follows the upper edge of this. Above and left is a more coherent crag, with the obvious Eel Crag Gully central and Tower Ridge/Main Ridge further left. Further left again is Scott Crag, which has a separate entry in the database.
GR 192 207, altitude 700m (not counting the scrotty outcrops lower down below the scree).
The big track up Coledale is the obvious way, but a traverse from Coledale Hause loses very little height, so it fits well into a winter anticlockwise version of the Coledale Horseshoe. If doing this in mist, note that the large broken area closer to Coledale Hause isn't the part of the crag with the climbs, these are behind, up and left.
