Please refrain from climbing outside

Due to the ongoing spread of Covid-19, please abstain from climbing outside.

At UKC we are all climbers and we understand the strong urge to be outdoors as the weather is finally improving, but we feel this is no longer socially acceptable. You can read our statement here.

We have suspended the UKC Logbooks Top Ascents and Conditions pages and we will no longer accept ascents dated from 23rd March onwards. You can still upload your historic ascents.

UKClimbing Team

Cloughy 31 Jul, 2019 - Day three in Gran paradiso, set off from the Chabod hut, and tried to beat our time from two days earlier. Went much lighter, ate more food - took 7.5 hours from the hut to the summit and back. Learned a lot of Good lessons for the future!

TomH92 11 Aug, 2017 Lead Set off at 0500 in poor weather, hoping to have crossed the easier sections of the glacier before the weather window broke so that we could easily identify the route further up. We ascended through a mix of visibility: from views of the whole glacier, to 10m of vis in blizzard conditions. The summit was very exposed and in full winter conditions, with a covering of snow. By leaving earlier than the guided teams we made it above a blizzard which happened below 3800. We descended through the remnants of it, and found navigation very difficult in a full whiteout. The perfect climb in prep for other mountains, it is an easy climb unless you have no visibility in which case it punches above its grade.

JHolland 20 Sep, 2016 - Good snow cover made for fast progress across the glacier. Nice and straightforward, big scary crevasses but well bridged. Fresh snow made the final summit ridge after the madonna a bit more interesting but never dicey. A good laugh and very doable immediately after bad weather.

adrianj 3 Sep, 2015 - Walked to Chabod hut on Wed 2nd Sep. Lovely hut with nice view of the route and surroundings. Many Ibex around the hut. Route in good condition. We went a bit high to start and had to cut across onto the Piste via a very crevassed but dry Glaier. The route winds up through many interesting crevasses, including some full of water!
