An interesting quarry, atypical of other local venues which offers a rewarding set of climbs for those prepared to put in just a little more effort than a typical day climbing.
In the past it has attracted the likes of Joe Brown, Wilf White and Johnny Dawes to add new routes. Unfortunately a minimal write up in the Froggatt to Black Rocks guide and more illustrious neighbouring crags has meant that the quarry has been ignored by route climbers.
However, renewed interest in 2024 has produced some good new routes and a few of the older lines have been cleaned and reappraised revealing some neglected classics.
The topouts can be a challenge and the last metre or so can be loose so setting up a hanging rope is advised but shouldn't detract from the experience.
There is also a bouldering circuit which offers some good problems with the area around Scrapheap Challenge staying dry in the rain.
Please do not climb here if there is a motorbike event on.
The quarry is occasionally used for motorbike events at the weekends and all climbing should be avoided at these times. If you are climbing and motorbikers arrive then please leave without question.
Park with care on the roadside allowing plenty of room for wide loads to pass. Avoid obstructing any gates. Approach from the public footpath leading from the sharp bend by the water trough, after 40m turn right off the path and follow the track to the quarry in 1 min.
