Septic Cleft - Ladybower Quarry © HB

Crag features

A relatively minor quarry, but with a sunny open aspect. The quarry is a designated nature reserve, amongst the plentiful wildlife, the observant may see all manner of birds from Goldcrests to Peregrines.

This is a venue for the lover of the esoteric and the visiting climber should bring an adventurous approach along with a good pair of secateurs. Despite a poor reputation, there are actually quite a few good routes here. The rock can be extremely friable in places and demands careful handling particularly on the finishes. Worth a visit, if only to finish off the evening in The Ladybower Inn.

Approach notes

Situated 180m east of The Ladybower Inn adjacent to the A57 Sheffield - Glossop road.

Went there 3 months ago + was glad to top rope the HVS 5b in the middle of the crag. Felt more like sustained E1 especially with the rock being so friable!!! While we were there, an owl flew out of a crack on the left hand side (a 1* HVS) so this would be worth avoiding. Overall, an interesting place and was relieved to leg it up to Stanage End afterwards!!
