Victoria Ashton bouldering at Calvaire, Fontainebleau © Jim Brooke
Climbing at Le Calvaire is unusual for the area, as it takes place not only on boulders, but also on a rampart. The old orange circuit has recently been complemented by the addition of yellow and blue circuits.
Warning: As of 2009 the overhang has become dangerous to climb due to loose rock. Care should be taken when climbing all the undercut overhung/cave features along the rampart as the quality of the rock can be unpredictable.
Two accesses are possible for this sector, located in the neighborhood of the town of Fontainebleau. It is possible to park at the bottom of the Route de la Reine Amélie and to follow this road to the Croix du Calvaire under which the climbing problems can be found (this is the logical way from the railway station of Fontainebleau-Avon). Another possibility is to use a small parking lot at the crossing of ND de Bon Secours, to follow the blue path and to traverse to the right at the top of the slope.
