About 50 routes, mainly in low to middle grades, on excellent limestone. Routes vary from 1 - 5 pitches.
Approach information is mysteriously absent from the topo. From Couiza, take the Arques road, then turn right (direction Rennes-les-Bains) after about 5km. 600m further on there's a track on the left. Take it, head around the first hairpin at 200m, then park on the left shortly afterwards. Continue on foot along the track, ignoring the first turn to the left. The path up to the cliff is marked with a wooden stake. Head steeply up through woods, keeping to the right when in doubt, and arrive at the level of the crag just below the left-most sector (Les Fourmis Rouges).
Nesting restrictions 1 Feb - 15 June in sectors La Dalle and Le Petit Cirque.
According to the book "The Tomb of God" by Andrews and Schellenberger, behind this crag lies a secret tunnel and chamber housing the body of Christ. Exciting stuff, but the research was very flawed. The whole area is bound up in the mystery of the Knights Templar and all sorts of arcane mysteries. Frank the Husky - 08/Jan/20 |
