A delightful and underrated slab in a peaceful valley. Roadside access, excellent quartzite/micro-granite style rock, and technical slab climbing make it well worth a visit for the Extreme leader. The guide is miserly with stars, suggested ratings have been applied here. It may also get better weather than the Snowdonia massif.
The top is a bit heathery so it's recommended to attach a doubled 60m rope to a good belay boulder just right of centre, drop one end left and one end right to use for belays / abseil.
Drive along the B4418 from Penygroes or Rhyd Ddu until the crag appears. Park on the gravel nearby and psyche up for the 30 second walk-in past a crux stile... It is possible to get a bus from Caernarfon or Betws y Coed to Rhyd Ddu and walk 30 mins along the road.
next to londoners hut! amazing slab. full guide aint listed on here. most of the routes have low cruxes. a week on this will leave youre skin screaming. these routes would be classics elsewhere; good hard slab moves, good view. masonwoods101 - 19/May/11 |
