40-metre concrete structure located on the outskirts of Tbilisi.
The unfinished memorial known as the Lotkin Monument was built to mark the 800th anniversary of writer Shota Rustaveli. While working on the project, a resolution was issued by the Soviet government in the 1970s banning the construction of monuments, and the construction of the symbolic tomb of Shota Rustaveli was suspended. The area had not been registered for years until in the local climbing community adapted it for urban climbing and the United Federation of Georgian Mountaineers approved the structure.
The monument was intended to be a community centre for arts and culture, to allow locals to mingle and cultivate creativity; revived, it now serves as a primary outdoor climbing location for the region and is covered in street art. Routes are well maintained.
