Crag features

North Berwick Law provides year-round bolted routes.

A new photo-topo detailing all the climbs is available to download here.

Approach notes

Head for big hill behind North Berwick and park near the Primary School. The crag is on the southwest side of the hill at around the same height as the carpark - only climb up the hil if you want a good warmup!

Access Advice

The crag is owned by East Lothian Council. Anyone wishing to carry out further bolting contact them for permission first. There are certain sensitive areas that they are keen to avoid new routes appearing to prevent unintentional damage to archaeology, wildlife or the landscape.

Left some gear here last night, if anyone picked it up can they drop me a message please. Cheers

That's my hanger...I will have it back then thank you! An extra bolt was added to this route, which was generally approved. I removed it in winter briefly but was returned. Not sure why this has happened. Maybe someone can replace it? It is was a 10mm stainelss hanger.

Hanger missing on first bolt of Darkness Falling, removed by moderator?

Whoever was top-roping on the main wall this evening (16/7) - you are a bunch of rude idiots. Basically look like locals, don't say hello back when greeted. A top rope set up on a route, but actually climbing the route next to the one the rope is on. Very rude when challenged. Hogging the route all night. Then to top it off that bunch decided it was a good idea to smoke the whole place out with a disposable BBQ. Sport climbs may be worth it, but never coming back. Compared to this, Aberdour is Chamonix! Never met such an unpleasant, rude and uneducated bunch of locals!

Worth visiting for the bolted lines in the corner. None of the 'trad' routes are worth a star or anywhere near it though; unprotected, easy-angled slabs with mostly poor rock.

Sport climbing is very good here and has alot of quality lines. However the trad in the area is a different story. I don't recommend the car park buttress, although there are some fantastic views once up there.

The sports routes make a good introduction to the F6a to F7a grades as they are short and on perfect rock. The trad climbing is gearless and severly overgraded but there is plenty of good bouldering about if you are willing to poke around for it. Worth a visit.
