UKC

300m. A 300m, serious and committing route, rated 'D' on the Austrian VF scale.

It's a 'sport' via ferrata, with a short 15 minute walk-in from Ukanc. Despite this, the route itself is serious and committing, with no escape or possibility of down-climbing unless ropes and abseil equipment is brought. There are four tricky rock climbing moves at 'D', with the rest at 'C'. The descent is steep scree that should be taken carefully with potential for slips or rockfall.

The Via Ferrata isn't widely published due to its easy access, but seriousness once on route. If there is a chance of rain, making the limestone very slippy, consider bringing ropes and abseil equipment for escape. This is a significant step up in terms of climbing difficulty compared to other classic VF mountain routes, although most rock climbers should feel comfortable.

The climbing itself is great, with beautiful views of Lake Bohinj as soon as you pop out of the tree line. The scree descent is great fun.
