The routes are well-bolted, some possibly too well-bolted, but because of their short nature and some potential for loose rock, often the extra bolts are welcome. Most are steep slabs in nature; this can help save some arm strength and buys folks more climbing time.
All the routes are on natural placements and lend themselves well for training for real routes when winter returns.
There’s nothing yet graded harder than D5. Therefore, this makes for a useful winter climbing intro training venue. This, in turn, can lead to it being very busy on days when the snow disappears during the winter months.
There are often several variations and grades to the lines below, climbing left, right, or straight up the line of bolts.
Location: Old A9 road next to the railway bridge, under the A9 road bridge (Grid: NH 852 239)
Parking: Recommended parking is at the big dirt carpark, next to the Slochd railway houses to the west of the crag (Grid: NH 847 238). The old A9 road is currently closed beyond the access to the Slochd houses. Climbers have been parking near the crag on the old road but this is not recommended as it is illegal to drive/park on a closed road.
Please don't drive beyond the road closed signs.
