At UKC we are all climbers and we understand the strong urge to be outdoors as the weather is finally improving. Please proceed with caution though.

Red Rock Canyon Open Space is a 787-acre Colorado Springs city Parkland which spreads below the abrupt mountains on the West side of Colorado Springs. The park, hidden from the city by a high hogback on the East, is composed of three distinct canyons - Red Rock Canyon, Greenlee Canyon, and Sand Canyon - that drain North to Fountain Creek. Red Rock Canyon, the Easternmost Canyon, is a stunning canyon lined with towering sandstone cliffs and floored by meadows and dense scrub oak thickets.
RRCOS is directly south of Garden of the Gods and US Highway 24. Access the trailhead by turning south from US 24 at the only turn between 30th Street and the first Manatou Springs exit. Drive 1 block south and park at the designated parking area. Hike east along an old road, which bends into lower red rock canyon, a broad area with trees. Follow the road uphill and past the old blockhouse to a viewpoint overlooking the lake. This is 1/2 a mile from the parking.
