The grade III- descent into the crux gully ('Grande Creux') can be avoided by walking round the seaward nose of the gully on a 9.6m tide (~1.1m low water). This reduces the grade of the section between Marble bay and Fermain to grade II.
There may also be an escape at Le Ricou point - fishermen used to fish there and may still do.
The whole scramble from St.Martin's point to Fermain takes quite a long time. It might be best to do the scramble in reverse and start at Fermain to cross the Grand Creux as soon as possible before low water.
