Crag features

A unique climbing venue offering mainly lower grade climbs on primordial rocks which have been weathered into striking towers and pinnacles. The outlook across Salcombe Bar is beautiful and the climbs are sheltered from westerly winds and enjoy the morning sun.

There has been climbing at Sharp Tor since the 1960s but few records were kept.

Approach notes

Salcombe is the major resort of the area, reached via the A381. For Sharp Tor turn right to South Sands just before Salcombe then follow the narrow lane which hugs the coast southwards until it ends at a National Trust property (car park and YHA). The Coast Path starts 150m back down the road, where there is also roadside parking for half a dozen cars. After walking along the flat Coast Path for 10 minutes, the bizarre rock formations of Sharp Tor loom above.

Seasonal Restrictions

Dates: 1 February to 31 May

Reason: Nesting Birds

Ravens have been reported nesting on the Upper Crag, please avoid the two routes on this part of the crag (Four Stong Winds and We're In Love) until the birds are no longer nesting. This is likely to be around the end of May.
Fantastic outlook, would be a great crag with a bit more traffic. Gear can be sparse. Can also be approached from East Soar car park via tea room and lovely valley.
