Restricted Access

UPDATE AUG25:

After constructive engagement with Forestry England and the BMC the open access closure has now been removed from the southern end ONLY of the Symonds Yat cliffs.  This includes Far South Buttress, New Orleans Buttress and The Final Zone.

Access is contingent on strictly observing the closed section from Introductory Rocks to Bowlers Hole inclusive.  There are unstable sections of the cliff and contractors will need to access these sectors at any time until Spring 2026.

Please observe and respect signage which demarks the closed areas, and do not climb nor take access on foot beyond the signs.

18m. At the New Orleans Buttress there is a large square cut cave bounded by 'Plop' on the left and 'Mississippi' on the right. 'Slimy Plop', starts at chest height, one metre in from the back left corner of the cave: Climb a line of pockets and layaways to the centre of the cave, from here go up to follow a hand traverse until it blanks out. Use the undercut pocket below to transfer into the corner of 'Big Plop'. Climb this route to the top (in the right corner at the back of the cave: Climb the corner to the roof, then out right to thing vertical crack. Follow the crack to top out staying left of the tree and avoiding the arĂȘte. Large but suspect protection in the top half of the crack).
