Crag features

A huge rocky wall over 600m high and cut by many wide couloirs, deep gullies and narrow goulettes. The summit consists of a large, barren plateau approximately 1.3km2 and at an average elevation of 3800m. Only a handful of the major lines on the face have been climbed and there are plenty of new objectives for the adventurous Alpinist. Much more remote than the neighbouring valley, it is rarely frequented by climbers and the itineries have a serious feel.

Approach notes

From Marrakech Airport, take a Taxi to Imlil and walk to the village of Tizi Oussem via the Tizi n'Mzik pass (2480m). It is preferable to take a taxi directly to this village from the airport, however there may be some trouble getting the taxi drivers to understand where it is (none have ever heard of it). Take the main roud from Marrakech to the town of Asni, but instead of turning off to Imlil at Asni, continue on the main road for 15 more minutes. Tizi Oussem is signposted on the left and is at the end of the road (approximately 40 mins). Cost should be 250 - 600 Dh.

Once in the village, locate the hut guardian and walk with him up to the Refuge de Lepiney; this take about 2.5 to 3 hours. The NNE face of Tazaghart is 40-80mins beyond the hut depending on snow cover and your objective.
