The Pillar of Elidir © JamesM
The pillar is an impressive piece of rock with a serious feel to it, which is well worth a visit for those wanting an adventure away from the crowds. It is worth being preared to abseil off the pillar or squirm down the Rift(a brilliant pitch of climbing) then ab down west gully(it is possible to climb down this but I can personally recommend in this case learning your lesson the easy way!). The classic of the crag is Corrugated Cracks HS.
Easiest approach is to plod up the broad ridge above the R side of the dam until about 60' above the obvious cairn/pillar. From here a faint path goes L, descending a bit, crossing under the lower toe of the Elidit Pillar.
