Please follow the new approach listed below - existing guidebooks advocate crossing drystone walls which are becoming damaged.
A superb boulder sitting above the west bank of the Arfon Ffrydlas.
Home to the soon-to-be classic "Chopsaw" along with several good quality easier problems with potential for hard sitters.
Good landings, quick drying, afternoon and evening sun.
The previously known approach is causing friction with a local farmer due to damage of his drystone walls, please follow the below approach.
Park at the playground off Long St nr Gerlan. Turn right uphill into Glanrafon and walk for 50m until a farmer's gate on your left. Pass through the gate, closing it behind you and follow the obvious track as it crosses a river via a new bridge. As the land flattens out (after the abandoned caravan!!), the boulder is to your right and upstream. The top of the boulder is level with the field.
If approached by a farmer, he's super friendly and will just want to check which direction you came from.
As of 18th of August farmer informed us he didn't give permission for climbers here and that he had asked previous climbers to not climb on his land. He asked us to spread the word he didn't want anyone climbing on his land.
We attempted to ask for his number for any future discussions about access but he refused and just asked us to spread the word that he wanted no climbing both for liability reasons his live stock and the previously mentioned damaging of wall.
Don't take any notice of the GPS co ordinates or directions listed on here for this boulder, not even nearly right, what a waste of time.... Joe Lawson - 12/Dec/16 |
