Crag features

Home to the splendid Adultress (E2 5c) whose crux was the cover pic for a previous guidebook. Also has some finger-busting crimpfests for sporty types. The longest route is 27m (Adultress) but most are more like 15m.

This area also includes Retribution Wall. Wedge Wall is just around the corner (to your left on the way down to Trial Wall).

Other crags accessible from here by continuing to follow the path SW include: Black ButtressSilent Walls, Calcite BaySinners WallsWindy ButtressThe Fat Lady Wall and Carbon Slab.

The cliffs here are of limestone. Some of the newly equipped routes may still be little loose, so please exercise caution.

The sea level crags are located on the separate Rhossili Beach crag page.

Approach notes

Park at Rhossili village in the National Trust car park and walk along the narrow road past the NT shop towards Worm's Head. Just before the track makes a sharp left turn, scramble down to your right towards Trial Wall.

Access Advice

A pair of Kestrels nest in the hole between the routes Black Wall and Inch Pinch, partial and full retrictions will be in place while the birds are sitting and feeding the young.

Please follow any signage placed at the bottom of the face giving up to date information on the restrictions agreed with the National Trust.

Partial restrictions will normally be in place from mid April - mid June and then a full restriction until the chicks fledge at the end of July, but this will of course depend on the birds!

Please note that all wild birds are protected while in or near a nest and it is an offence to disturb any wild bird while it is building a nest or is in or near a nest containing eggs or young.

Seasonal Restrictions

Dates: 15 April to 31 July

Reason: Nesting Birds

A well established pair of Kestrels nest in a hole between Black Wall and Inch Pinch.

A partial restriction is in place on the routes either side of the nest from April 15th (subject to change - see local signage) to allow the birds to sit peacefully on thier eggs.

A full restriction is in place on all routes on Trial Wall from June 15th - July 31st (subject to change - see local signage) to allow the birds to feed their young without disruption.

Any restriction will be lifted once the young have fledged.

We were harassed (literally) by a very aggressive and officious Coastguard for climbing in this area. She incorrectly told us climbing was banned in this area (not correct, climbing has occurred here with the agreement of the CCW/NT since at least the mid 1950s). She proceeded to film us and told us we would be reported to the MCA (who clearly do not have jurisdiction here). I'd suggest that anyone else with a similar experience report this to the BMC.

Felt like there should have been at least one extra bolt on each route and a couple more lower offs (which will not last very long if people top rope through them without using carabiners!) - there is no point in scrimping on bolts. Also these are showing lots of polish for not very old routes.
