Restricted Access

'Private Land' signs have appeared at some points along the boundary with the A635 road which has led to some confusion over whether access is permitted or not. This land is designated as Open Access and the public have a full legal right to access is for recreation on foot, including climbing. Please keep dogs on a lead to help avoid future difficulties.

16m. The summer line of Little Running Water freezes into a thin featured ice smear. Pull strenuously out from beneath the roof onto the face. Hastily arrange nuts in the crack (see logbook entry). The smear provides an intense trip on thin ice with the dubious comfort of tied off stubby ice screws. Move right at the top across ice mushrooms to finish.

βeta: A surprising discovery thanks to Sam Clayton. Abbed the line to check nut placements in the lower left hand crack which was heavily verglassed at the bottom. VI 6 or harder. Well bonded but thin ice requiring a measured cool approach. This route formed after a few days of cold easterly winds. Gets the sun on it till mid morning at this time of year. I can’t comment on how consistently it forms.
