Looking to Bridestones from Whirlaw © jonathandavey
A mini edge of boulders on a hillside above Todmorden. The rock is rough, clean moorland grit, and dries very quickly after rain. Landings are generally good, padded by the heather.
The boulders make a good low to mid grade circuit, with a mix of slabs, aretes and turn-the-lip mantels. There are a few hard projects still to be done, mostly rocking onto hanging slabs.
A video of some of the problems is here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xqGCB09Qa1w
Whirlaw may be reached by foot from several directions, the nearest parking is along the verge of Eastwood Road. From here walk South down a Windy Harbour Lane, at the end of the road turn right along a bridleway. The stones will appear on your left, less than 10 minutes' walk from the car.
