Rocktype Sandstone (hard)
Altitude 3m a.s.l

It’s not often that public authorities do climbers a favour as at West Derby Cuttings but here they have recently removed the spiky bushes that prevented access to this 4m high 200m length of wall and replaced them with a nice grassy landing (try and avoid damaging the newly planted saplings so climbers don’t get the blame). A scenic venue below St Mary’s Church with great views of the two Mersey Bridges. The sandstone is pocketed, solid, and quick drying – like a mini Chester Racecourse Walls.
You can park close to the wall in the West Bank but it is easiest to park in the Catalyst Museum car park (signposted - café too) and take a pleasant 5 min walk along the river towards the old bridge.
