Bouldering in the evening © Paul Tanner

Crag features

A short limestone crag secluded in trees. It offers mainly bouldering on excellent compact limestone, ranging from easier problems right of the 'Well', to modern roof desperates on the left. Trad. routes are all solos and extended problems.

Suffers badly from seepage, best visited in summer.

WOODWELL OERT ROAD ACCESS RULES:

1. For ecological reasons, bouldering is only permitted on the three designated areas. Climbers should not proceed past Cave Buttress - this will be marked with a sign.
2. Dogs are NOT allowed.
3. Climbers must not enter the field directly below the rock.

Approach notes

All areas are now open to use. Woodwell O'ert Road has access guide lines:

The National Trust have recently joined in partnership with the BMC to reinstate access to three bouldering areas on Woodwell O'ert Road on a trial basis: Wolf Buttress, Troll Buttress and Cave Buttress.

Climbers are welcome to come and enjoy the bouldering on the three designated areas but please observe the following conditions when visiting:

Sadly the left hand side of Tom's Buttress has collapsed. This appears to be recent as I have not seen it reported elsewhere.

Love this place! Great for a summer afternoons entertainment, Toms roof area is full of awesome problems and some really sexy projects!
