The very definition of an esoteric lockdown crag! But handy if you are stuck in the area without wheels.
Woolton is one of the highest points in Merseyside with good views across the river to North Wales from Woolton Woods/Camp Hill – as the name suggests this was the site of an iron age camp. There are a few sandstone outcrops in the area though none are suitable for climbing. Woolton Quarry in Quarry Street could have been a major venue but it is now full of houses. There are also many sandstone walls in the area but most are too low/public and mossy/overgrown with ivy for climbing. This exception is composed of good, clean rock that gets the afternoon sun and is about 2.5 m high and 50m in length.
Either walk from Woolton village or from School Lane. If coming from the village turn R just before the walled garden and walk down towards the playing fields. Go off to the right just before the path turns left and you can see the care home behind a stone wall.
